More than 300 Muslims gathered at the Warsaw Central Mosque on Friday to offer prayers. Most of the 5,000 Muslims in the capital are highly educated. A translation of the Holy Qur'an in Polish and a translation and interpretation of a book of hadith called 40 Hadiths of Imam Nawabi have been published. Although there is no mosque in the Poznan area, Muslims perform the five daily prayers in the local dormitory. The activities of the Muslim Union and the Muslim Students' Society, established in 1969, are striking. Under the auspices of the Muslim Union, various magazines in Polish and English are regularly published with the aim of developing the Qur'an, Hadith, history, tradition and moral values. Notable among them is 'Muslim World Review', monthly Islamic magazine 'Alif'. The Muslim Students Society has set up a number of educational centers for the purpose of imparting religious education to Muslim children. Mahfils, seminars, dialogues and discussion meetings are held on different days every year under the management of the Society.
The organization has already published 22 books on various topics, an Arabic quarterly called Al Hadara and a magazine called Hiqsa. 'Hikma' has released 42 issues so far. One of the main programs of the society is to motivate and enroll Muslim students in madrasas and schools. Leaders of various Muslim organizations are moving forward with a concerted plan to publish a reliable commentary, including a translation of the Holy Quran in Polish, through scholars, to establish a higher Islamic education center in the capital, Warsaw, and to establish an Islamic library.
