There is no Mosque in Bhutan
Bhutan
is a member state of SAARC and the least populous country in South Asia after Maldives.Bhutan is located in the eastern part of the
Himalayas in the Indian subcontinent. Bhutan is bounded on the north by the
Tibetan region of China, on the west by the Chumbi Valley of Sikkim and Tibet
in India, on the east by Arunachal Pradesh and on the south by Assam and North
Bengal. The official name of Bhutan is Kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan covers an area
of 46,500 square
kilometers. Thimphu is the capital city and it is located in the mid-western
part of the country. Bhutan is a monarchy. The monarchy currently exists here.
Bhutan had an absolute monarchy in the past. At present it is a constitutional
monarchy. The people of Bhutan call their country Druk Yule or the land of the
lightning dragon in their mother tongue Jangkha. Again some call it the land of
oxygen. Some say happy people country. Some say the king's country. The
landlocked country Bhutan is often called the Switzerland of Asia because of
its size, shape and mountainous terrain. Bhutan became a member of the United Nations
in 1981. Bhutan is
the Buddhist-majority state in South Asia. Bhutan is the only country in the
world that has Mahayana Buddhism as its official religion. The inhabitants of
Bhutan are known as Bhutanese. According to the 2005 census, Bhutan has a population of 7,82,425. The
population is growing at a rate of 2% per year. The population density is 45 people per square kilometer. About 50% of the Drupaka people in Bhutan. It is
followed by Nepalis (35%)
and
other indigenous peoples. About three-quarters of the country's population
believes in Lamaist Buddhism. The rest practice Hinduism in India and Nepal.
The number of followers of Islam is negligible. The origin of the people of
Bhutan can be traced back to Nepal, Northern Burma, Northeast India and Tibet.
The majority of the people are Buddhist and 5% are Muslim. Other minority religions
include Hinduism and Christianity. (Muslims in Bhutan) According to a 2010 survey conducted by the Pew Research
Center, about 1% of Bhutan's
population is Muslim. According to one estimate, the number of Muslims in
Bhutan is about 7,000, which will
increase by 29% to 9,000 by 2030. Islam is banned (has no recognition) and
the government record does not know any presence of Muslims in Bhutan. But many
estimates there are more than thousands of Muslims in Bhutan. There are 9 churches in Thimphu. But there is no
mosque. It is forbidden to pray in public here. There are mosques in the
capitals of almost every country in the world. The exception is Bhutan. There
is no place for prayers anywhere in the whole country. Why mosques are not
being allowed to be built. According to local Bhutanese, if the mosque is
built, it will be a center of Islam. In this way, the Buddhist Bhutanese will
convert to Islam and become Muslims. Islam has no recognition in Bhutan and is
practiced by just 2,000 people,
where the constitution establishes the "Chhoe-sid-nyi" (dual system
of religion and politics) of Bhutan as unified in the person of the King who,
as a Buddhist, is the upholder of the Chhoe-sid (religion and politics;
temporal and secular) and the protector of all religions in Bhutan. In 2009, the Pew Research Center estimated
based on 2005 data that 0.5% of the population, or 2,750 people, were Muslims. (Wikipedia the
free encyclopedia).Bhutanese do not work as ordinary workers. This worker is from
India. Ninety percent of Indian workers in Bhutan are Muslims. Slaughter of
animals is prohibited in Bhutan. As a result, Indian Muslims went to their
country to offer sacrifices. Although the slaughter of cows, goats and
buffaloes is banned in Bhutan, there is no problem in eating its meat. So the
meat of these slaughtered animals is imported from India.
